Although we are amongst the largest piano retail shops in the East Midlands, we are first and foremost piano technicians. Our expertise is based on years of training and experience, our staff being fully apprenticed and holding City and Guilds qualifications. Consequently, Lincoln Piano Centre is able to offer a wide range of first-rate services: Professional tuning and repair service

We offer a top quality tuning service covering all needs from the home to the concert platform. We are proud that our tuning is widely regarded as amongst the best in the Midlands, providing a regular service to a number of concert halls, concert societies and musicians.

Due to our years of experience, we are able to offer a home tuning service that is second to none. We have, at one time or another encountered every conceivable type of piano, situation, problem or repair imaginable. Armed with this knowledge, we are able to tackle almost any tuning and/or on-site repair work we are asked to undertake.

We have numerous satisfied private customers, where six monthly (ideally) or yearly tuning contracts help maintain their pianos both up to pitch and in pristine condition. Also, we are happy to carry out casual or "one-off" tunings and repairs, a service for which we are regularly asked.

LEA & commercial contracts

Other tuning work we undertake includes services to schools, colleges, local authorities, churches, recording studios etc., where appropriate discounts apply for ongoing tuning and maintenance contracts. We have a wide knowledge of this type of work, where heath and safety issues become of considerable importance.

As part of ongoing maintenance for example, attention is paid to areas such as castor and wheel function, locks, case part fitting and leg safety on grand pianos. Also, fitting of appropriate back blocks, castors, wheels, 'A' frames etc. is regularly undertaken.

Regulationg & toning (voicing)

Does your piano sound too loud, bright or harsh? Conversely, does it sound too quiet, soft or mellow? We are able, within certain limitations dictated by design, age, condition etc., to harden or soften the tone of your piano to provide a more agreeable sound.

Similarly, does your piano feel difficult to play? Is the action (playing mechanism) responding as well as it should? Excessively heavy touch, unevenness of the touch, lack of repetition speed and poor levelling of the keys for example, are all part of the regulating process. Regulating involves setting up the instrument such that it performs to its optimum, and, within the tolerances of the action, each of the above examples could be addressed.

We are able to offer full regulating and toning services for both upright and grand pianos. We find there are surprisingly few firms and piano tuners who possess sufficient technical expertise and understanding to fully carry out this type of work. We are very proud of our ability in these areas.

Concert standard restoration, repairs & repolishing.

Is your piano looking and sounding old and tired? Had you considered having it restored? We offer a concert standard restoration, repair and repolishing service. Examples range from replacing a broken piano string in the customer's home, to a complete piano rebuild at our specialist workshop. No job is too large or small for us in this respect.

Routine repairs for customers are regularly undertaken. These may involve repairs to the hammers, keys and other parts of the action, and regularly include replacement of felts, cloths, leathers and springs for example. Similarly, routine maintenance of the stringing, casework and castors can be carried out.

With regard to restoration, we undertake all aspects of the piano rebuilding process, where older pianos can once again become superb musical instruments and a beautiful piece of furniture. As leading exponents, Steinway, Bechstein and other premier makes are regularly to be found in our workshop. Aspects of restoration include overhauling the piano action, repairing and replacing case parts, refinishing the soundboard and iron frame, and restringing, to name but a few...

We offer a comprehensive and expert repolishing service. The pianos are stripped, damaged parts are repaired, re-veneered or replaced, and the case is then colour matched. One of a number of different finishes can then be applied, such as traditional French polish, oil based finish, or a modern spray finish. Depending on the technique and materials used, finishes can be matt, satin or high gloss as required.

Valuations, purchases, part exchange...

If you are thinking of selling your piano or need to know its value, why not arrange for us to visit. We are able to provide valuations for the purposes of insurance, probate, private sales and purchases.

Along with new piano sales, much of our business revolves around second hand piano sales and restoration. Consequently, dependent upon age, make, internal design and condition etc., we are always more than interested in purchasing both modern and older second hand pianos. Similarly, we are always very pleased to consider taking your old piano in part exchange against a new or used piano purchased from us.

Subject to how busy we are and time availability, we are happy to extend this service to customers. Our only proviso is that we do not normally entertain flights of stairs - ground floor to ground floor only. Most homes have a few steps up to the door; this is not a problem. Should we be unavailable at the time, we are able to recommend other excellent nationwide piano movers.
